Fuel consumption data are determined by the manufacturer, subject to the conditions set by the EU Directive 80/1268 (editorial 93/116/EES). These data are determined in bench tests in laboratory conditions, which differ significantly from the actual operating conditions.
In the real operation of the car by the consumer, the fuel consumption is affected by the following factors:
- Use of air conditioning
- Tyre pressure (low pressure increases consumption)
- Car loading (the more loaded the car, the greater the expense)
- Driving style (sports riding style increases consumption)
- Road and weather conditions (bumpy road, dirt, slush, snow porridge increase consumption)
- Long-lasting traffic at speeds of more than 110 km/h
